Welcome to Yoga Pole Studio—a unique yoga-aerial fusion studio in Downtown Brooklyn, NY, that provides individualized stretch and strengthening exercises designed for each student’s own level.

BARBARA J. CHIN

Barbara is a NASM-certified personal trainer and certified yoga instructor whose passion for exercise and health are rooted in many years of competitive gymnastics. That passion led to coaching gymnasts of all ages from toddlers to adults, ranging from absolute beginners to competitive teams. With advanced degrees in Fitness Instruction and Nutrition & Exercise Physiology, she has worked with personal training clients one-on-one and teaching a wide variety of group fitness classes such as Spinning/indoor cycling, kickboxing, group strength training, step aerobics, boot camp classes and more. Her close attention to detail, form and technique ensures that students develop a solid foundation before progressing further, promoting strong understanding of skill development while minimizing the risk of injury.

Carolyn Chiu

 

Your Yoga Pole instructor is Carolyn Chiu. Carolyn is a second generation Taiwanese American, currently living in Brooklyn, New York. While being an outstanding multi media performance artist, she has fitness programmed into her DNA. 

 

In 2009, Carolyn launched a pole photography studio in New York City, “Poleography.com”. In 2010 she joined with LI Dance Fitness, where she launched her Chinese pole program; an innovative and creative combination of the art of gymnastics and the zen of yoga. All based around the pole. In that same year, Carolyn took the title of, “Hong Kong Pole Fitness Champion.”

 

Carolyn’s primary focus is to spread the art of vertical dancing as a respected, graceful performance, demonstrating health, fitness and balance.

Miss Tuesday

 

Tuesday’s work is collaborative and encourages participants to explore paths to personal discovery, empowerment, liberation, and fulfillment through pole dance. Abena “Tuesday” Gyebi is a dancer/marketer/creative born and raised in NYC. While pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Dance, she discovered aerial fitness and has been in love ever since. She is currently working on a few dance initiatives, including a biweekly class in movement exploration called Pole Play at Yoga Pole Studio in Brooklyn.

 

Tuesday’s work is collaborative and encourages participants to explore paths to personal discovery, empowerment, liberation, and fulfillment through pole dance.

Facility

As a fully stocked studio, YPS gives students free access to poles, straps, blocks, yoga mats, Therabands, and other equipment to help build strength, range of motion, flexibility and confidence.

 

 

Our Offering 

We offer two programs: pole handstand & aerial hoop lyra programs. We encourage students to focus on one program. The pole handstand program is functional and will develop your core strength. The aerial hoop lyra program will increase your upper body strength and coordination.

 

New students are encouraged to try the introductory class

We specialize in semi private lessons for all levels of yogis, athletes, runners, cyclists, aerialists, dancers, performers, and those who seek the healing benefits of meditative movement.
